FIFA World Cup 2014: Teams To Really Look Out For
The 2006 World cup was all about experience, with the two oldest teams in the tournament, France and Italy going on to face off against each other in the finals. The 2010 World Cup however was all about the youth, with teams like Germany, Ghana and World Champions Spain, having some of the youngest squads ever to feature in the tournament. No one can say for sure what’s going to happen four years from now, but here’s a look at some teams that would be looking to do exceptionally well in 2014.
When the World Cup will take place in Brazil, Argentina’s key attacking threats, Messi, Higuain, Aguero and Di Maria will all be under the age of twenty six. However the problem with Argentina was never in their attack but rather in their defense. The Argentinean coach, would need to ensure he takes a solid defensive line up with him to the tournament as well as a strong midfield, if he wishes to not be destroyed by a team with a superior midfield again.
The Spanish team will be completely revamped by 2014. Players like Xavi, Puyol, Villa and Alonso would most probably have left the team and given way to the younger Spanish generation of players. Fabregas would be a key figure in the Spanish midfield in 2014. Spain also have a series of players who could take Villa’s place up front. It would be stupid to count Spain out of the running to retain their spot as being World Champions
Most people thought that the young German side featuring in the 2010 World Cup was good. What they fail to realize, is that, this team can only get better once it matures. Thomas Muller who was only twenty years old at this year’s tournament, managed to take home the Golden Boot and Young Player award, he would clearly be looking to build on that in the following tournament. Players like Schweinsteiger and Podolski would be there to provide the much needed experience to the side. Klose who would be thirty six by then is highly unlikely to make a cameo appearance however.
Brazil generally expects to win the World Cup every time it participates in the tournament. So the fact that the tournament would be taking place on their home soil would mean, that it would become a must win situation for them. Since their current coach Dunga got fired, they will need to find a coach who is even more capable.
Building a squad for the new coach won’t be much of a problem since there is an ocean of talented Brazilians out there. Neymar and Ganso are two of those players. By then players like Ramires And Marcelo would have matured and become the senior members of the squad to help provide guidance to the much younger Brazilian squad, we can’t expect to see players like Kaka or Fabiano to start since they would just be too old by then.
However even though there are still four years left till the next tournament, Brazil are still being labeled as hot favorites to win it.
