FIFA World Cup Final 2010: Anderes Iniesta's 11th minute goal proved to be a wet blanket for the Dutch celebrations
Spain has always been considered a country with the potential to get this far, but have never come up to the expectations. While On the other hand, the Dutch have been here before. They lost the World Cup Finals twice consecutively, in 1974 to West Germany in West Germany, and in 1978 to Argentina in Argentina.
During the first forty five minutes, the Spanish played according to the expectations of the many fans around the globe. The game seemed to be going along with the wishes of the most of the fans of football.
The tract record of the Spanish team during the course of the tournament had forced the viewers of the game to support the team. While on the other hand, the Netherlands team, owing to its sad history and the prediction of a strange creature for the first time, the octopus, was under great pressure. This is because many people had the view point that Spanish are going to win this cup.
However, the hopes of many fans were dashed during the second half of the game. The Dutch seemed to be dominating the game. The team which had the strategy of defending the overwhelming Spanish team took offensive position suddenly. The Dutch tried their best to turn the tide against the Spanish team. They attacked the opponents dangerously. Two times the ball missed the goal by hairs width. Therefore, the game took a u-turn which was of course surprise for the Spanish fans who covered more than sixty percent of the stadium, and also many people around the globe.
The second half completely went in the favour of the Netherlands team unexpectedly. The perfect dependence and better performance of the team during their defensive strategy emboldened the Dutch team. That is why in second half the team decided to plunge into the main field. During the second half the Netherlands team played so effectively that, they forced the Spanish team to retreat to the defensive positions. This situation in actual sense turned tide against opponents. During this time, the predictions of octopus that had been proving true seemed to be turning out untrue. The Dutch forwards played very effectively. They almost managed to penetrate every ball which reach their legs during the game and attacked at the goal successfully. On the other hand, the attacks of the Spanish team at goal post of the opponent team were surprisingly poor. David villa, the well knows attacker didn’t seem to be in form .He missed a number of opportunities during the game.
The game entered the extra thirty minutes times eventually. Entering this phase was considered to be a positive sign for the Dutch team. The team which had received defeat twice before seemed this time to be putting an end to their sad record in the annals of history. The team pulled their muscles further and they were bent upon winning the cup this time.
The game once again took u-turn. The Spanish started to play according to the desires of many fans in the stadium and around the globe. During the extra time, the Spanish team seemed to be in form again. The situation soon seemed to be in the favour of the Spain. This come back of the Spanish team into the form proved to be a wet blanket for the mirth of the Dutch team fans. While the Spanish fans once again emerged from a long time silence and started to celebrate mirth with frolic.
The situation took u-turn after the substitution of David villa plunged the field. The new comer helped change the situation up to great extend. The new comer alongside other forwards like Indres Iniesta started attacking the opponent team goal post effectively. They finally emerged triumphant against the Dutch team when Iniesta goal at 11th minute. With this, the agony for the Dutch team also ended. This goal by Iniesta at the eleventh hour resulted in the Fiesta for the Spanish fans while repeated the history for the Dutch team.
Therefore, the game which was dominated by the Netherland in the second half once again took a turn during the extra time and finally resulted in the favour of the Spanish team as most of the people and the octopus had predicted. Spain lifted the gold trophy and made its nation proud! Del Bosque the coach of Spain, who hadn’t smiled during the whole tournament, couldn’t stop ecstatic as he led his team to make history.
