FIFA World Cup Football 2010- Henry Speaks out on France’s early exit!!!
Following his team’s humiliating exit from the World Cup’s first round, former Arsenal captain, Thiery Henry revealed that he felt secluded in the French camp.
France, finalists of last World Cup, booked an early flight back home following their elimination from the competition in the opening round. Having only managed one point from a maximum of 9, the French side were disgraced by hosts South Africa in their final match. Mexico also defeated Les Blue 2-0; the French only managed a point with their draw against Uruguay. France never looked like the side who managed to lose the final to Italy only on penalties four years ago. The players had no team chemistry whatsoever. They had a lot of talent at their disposal with big guns like Ribery, Evra, Henry, Gallas and Gourcuff failing to fire at the right time. Their only goal from three matches came from Malouda, who was not even in the starting line up. This showed how mentally distressed they were, and no one really knows the true story.
Henry had a lot to say, claiming that he was supposed to be the elder brother, but was not considered as one. He added that he never felt a part of the team, and nobody considered talking to him. He said that he perhaps lost his credibility in the group and that made it more difficult. Henry believed that the Anelka controversy was perhaps not the triggering reason and argued that the camp was united. He insisted that he never saw any fights between players and there were no traces of any clans. He however did agree that there was some “sickness”.
He played down the argument between Domenech and Anelka, and said that media did not portray the true picture. Henry along with, Captain, Patrice Evra, believed that the players were a bit too urgent trying to strike a goal, rather than passing and creating more opportunities. He, however, agreed that the players were left with almost no choice whatsoever.
The French players need to support Anelka as they believe that he did not say those insulting words. He also said, everyone unanimously agreed that nobody is to put any pressure on anyone. He further added that perhaps his controversial goal against Ireland may have had something to do with the failure of the French campaign. As the saying goes, “what goes around come around”, and the Barcelona striker believes that karma probably has something to do with this. France qualified for the World Cup with much difficulty, with Henry passing the ball to Gallas to score the winner, after a controversial hand ball.
The French captain and Manchester United left back Patrice Evra later added that an inquiry will be conducted by the French government to investigate the reason behind the failure of the Les Blues. He promised to spill all the details of the campaign, to aid the inquiry. "An investigation will be opened by the ministry and all the players will be heard," he told TF1. "Each one of us will say what they experienced and will say the truth."
He added, however, that the wounds of the disappointing campaign are still fresh, and that it may not be the suitable time for telling everything. The French nation would clearly be hurt and want to forget the pain for a while before it is again uplifted by the media. He said that boycotting the training session following Anelka’s departure was a stupid thing to do, and they should not have done it. All of the French team unanimously decided to boycott the sessions, and he insisted that they were in such a state that they could have done almost anything. Whatever may have been the reason, the French government, Football Association and fans would want to know what went wrong with the 1998 champions and who was responsible for such a disaster!!!
