FIFA World Cup: Netherlands Wesley Sneijder Says Calling Dunga Maradona Idiots a misquote
Wesley Sneijder was the reason why the Dutch are in the semi finals. He played the pivotal role in defeating the classic and hot favourite Brazilian squad. The first goal came of an intended cross, which made it to the goal after the goal keeper misjudged it, while the second goal came as a header that was sell struck.
The 26 year olds performance hasn’t just shone in the match against Germany. He has given a great all round performance. Unfortunately, he has been surrounded by a disrespecting scandal recently when his comments were interpreted wrongly, but that’s what he says.
Sneijder the star winger from Netherlands has denied calling Diego Maradona and Dunga "idiots" and now has stated that his comments were wrongly translated.
In an interview, the star reportedly said that the Dutch coach gives the team a peace of mind and does not panic. Sneijder then branded outgoing Argentina Coach Diego Armando Maradona and Brazil Coach Dunga as “idiots," saying that he would prefer Van Marwijk than these two.
The midfielder from Real Madrid has now tried to clear the air by saying that he was misquoted. In an interview, he said that he has high regards for Dunga and Maradona and respects them for what they both have done as technicians, and never said anything to them directly and it was a mistake in translation and transcription.
Sneijder said that in the interview, he only talked about the differences between the coaches and that both of them are not equal. In addition, that he regrets that his words were misunderstood.
Sneijder played for Real Madirid from 2007 to 2009 and capped 52 matches, in which he scored 11 times. His performance for his previous club Ajax was pretty good, as he scored 44 times in 127 matches. He currently plays for Inter Milan and he has scored 4 times in 22 matches.
His career for Netherlands has been pretty impressive. Not only has he assisted majorly but has produced 18 goals in 66 matches for his country. His current performance is proof that his career with his team and club are really bright.
KNVB, the Dutch football federation, released a statement that stated that Sneijder didn't say the word 'idiot' per se." In addition, the press that took the interview have also removed the word idiot from the interview on their website.
While all of this catches some attention, Oscar Tabarez the Uruguay coach plans to exploit the Netherlands. Uruguay is expecting the Dutch side to attack and has identified Arjen Robben, as one of the main key figure for the Oranje but Tabarez believes that there are weaknesses. He commented on the topic that the Dutch do not know much about football and it has no attacking in it.
The coach also singled out Robben as a threat and as a great player, adding that he has a long stride and it’s difficult to tackle him and not to mention that he is very fast. He went on to say that, the opposing team is superior to them but only as a collective team in terms of ball possession, but when it comes to the manuals and the coaching courses, there are ways to beat stronger teams.
Tabarez said that his team will try to exploit their weaknesses, as even the best teams have them. Losing the match is definitely a possibility, but nothing is certain right now.
