FIFA World Cup: Players Who Have Carried Their Teams Offensively

The World Cup is drawing to a close, with the final scheduled to take place on Sunday, July the eleventh. There were some top class performances from teams and players throughout the course of the tournament. However there were some players who took it as their responsibility to carry their team forward, some of those players were more successful than the others, but they all did the best they could and were a treat for spectators to watch.

Most people would have thought players like Van Persie and Babel would be the main attacking threat for Netherlands, but that was not the case, with Wesley Sneijder making it his mission to take his team to places they had never been before. He has surprised people all over the world, he has taken the most shots at the goal, scored the most goals and has almost single handedly taken his team to the finals of the tournament. If he can maintain this same form in the final match, then it is safe to say that Netherlands will be crowned World Champions.

Forlan has by far been one of the best players at this year’s World Cup. Had Uruguay beaten the Dutch, Forlan would have most probably been nominated to be the best player of the tournament. Forlan has scored four goals in six games and still has a third place play off to participate in. Forlan had always stepped up when his team needed him to and has easily been the best player Uruguay have had play for them at the World Cup.

Germany had some amazing goal scoring threats in the form of, Muller, Podolski and Klose. But out of all these players, Thomas Muller emerged to be the best threat for the German national by far. Muller who was playing in his first World Cup finals, surprised everyone by being one of the best players of the tournament. He has scored four goals and has three assists so far, he was the main drive that Germany were lacking when they took on Spain, had he been present for that match, than it is safe to say the Germans might have been playing in the final instead of Spain.

David Villa is by far the most exciting player to watch at this year’s World Cup. He has amazing footwork and his ball control is exceptional. Some people may argue and say that he is only playing half as good as he is because of the team he’s playing for. But then why aren’t players like Torres displaying the same goal scoring threat that Villa is?

Spain is by far the best team at the tournament and Villa is by far the best player on that Spanish team. He scored s five of the seven goals that the Spanish squad have managed to get past their opponents, that in itself is a figure that justifies to him being one of the best players at the tournament. He is currently leading the Golden Ball list, but we’ll have to wait and see who wins that award once the tournament is over.
