The Italian football federation has released a statement stating that the Juventus chief’s censure goes beyond the legitimate reason to criticise the justice system.
FIGC have voiced their unhappiness at President Andrea Agnelli’s criticism of the Sporting Justice System, and has stressed that such attack on the federation is unacceptable.
The Bianconeri President recently gave a very harsh statement slamming the judges’ decision to reject Antonio Conte’s plea bargain, which could lead to a 15-month ban for the tactician.
The Federation’s response read that the FIGC operations are subject to the rules and regulations of the system, and stressed that these rules guarantee the independence of the judicial body.
The statement criticised Agnelli for the unfair conclusions made in his speech, and stated that the condemnation has exceeded the definition of fair criticism.
The FIGC announcement also brought to the attention the Bianconeri President’s former words, in which he had expressed his trust on the Justice System’s quest to achieve better clarity on the matter regarding Antonio Conte.
The official statement of the Italian football federation read:
“The FIGC operates fairly in the full respect of the rules that guarantee the independence and autonomy of the Sporting Justice system. The evaluations of Juventus President Andrea Agnelli are unacceptable and go beyond the legitimate right to criticism.
They also contrast with the statements he made on July 26, in which the natural sadness at the charges was – in the words of Agnelli – ‘mitigated by the knowledge the rules of the sporting justice system will achieve clarity in this match that is played in
front of the various courts.’”
Agnelli’s statement accused the Sporting Justice system of being dictatorial, and strongly criticised it for being more concerned about the people who maintain innocence, than the people that have confessed to their crime and should be punished.
Antonio Conte’s was talked by the prosecution into accepting a plea for a three-month ban, which was rejected by the judges as being insufficient.
The Juventus manager has now rejected the option to attempt another plea bargain, and has stated that he will pursue his innocence in the court.
