FIGC to decide Inter Milan 2005/06 title on July 18, 2011 – Serie A Calciopoli Update
Inter Milan will be notified by the end of this month whether they can keep the 2005/06 Serie A title or would it go back to the Turin giants, Juventus FC. The pandemonium started in the aftermath of the Calciopoli match fixing accusations on the Serie A
teams and it is feared that the Nerazzurri might be stripped off the title they took from Juventus FC.
Stefano Palazzi, the official Calciopoli prosecutor, had accused the San Siro giants of having contacts with top flight referees this week. Should the Nerazzurri be charged for having illegal contacts, they might be stripped off the title.
Palazzi’s statements regarding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567’s involvement in the Calciopoli are based on late La Beneamata President, Giacinto Facchetti’s phone calls to refereeing officials Paolo Bergamo and Pierluigi Pairetto. The final decision of the Italian Football Federation
would be announced on July 18.
However, the current Inter Milan President, Massimo Moratti has continually denied accepting the charges.
“There is nothing new here; these are issues that have already been dealt with. These are serious attacks against the club. The prosecutor Palazzi has got it badly wrong,” said Moratti.
The oil baron defended the former Inter president and said:
“To be honest, I can rule myself out of this, I am secondary, but the fact that Facchetti has been regarded in the way he has is a serious, offensive, stupid thing. Inter fans know exactly what kind of person he was.”
Juventus finished the 2005/06 season in the first place with 91 points, however, the Bianconeri were charged of match-fixing and were relegated to Serie B. Inter Milan finished that season third on the table, but due to point penalties on numerous teams,
the Serpent eventually made it to the top of the table and were awarded the Scudetto trophy.
