FIM confirm Motegi Twin Circuit will host Japanese Grand Prix in October 2011 – MotoGP news
MotoGP governing body International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) has officially revealed that the Japanese Grand Prix will take place at Motegi Twin Circuits on October 2, 2011.
The statement was released by FIM officials read, “The FIM and Dorna Sports have now received the official detailed and final report provided by ARPA, recognised body to investigate the current situation in Motegi and its environs. Based on this report the
FIM and Dorna Sports confirm today that, subject to there being no further serious incidents, the Grand Prix of Japan will take place on 2 October as planned.”
The detailed study done by ARPA agency has also confirmed that the radiation risk is at the minimum level which is avoidable. The FIM commissioned the ARPA to make sure that the atmosphere and food is free from any nuclear radiations. The final report confirms
the circuit is good to go.
The race at Motegi was postponed after Japan was hit by a severe earthquake and tsunami. The trauma shook the whole country and the MotoGP venue, Motegi faced damages during the disaster.
Reportedly, the circuit was cracked and the grandstand was also partially demolished. Although all the repair work has been done but the radiation risk still questions the event.
During the disaster, a nuclear plant named Fukushima was breached, causing nuclear radiations to spread around its area. As a fact, the Motegi circuit is 120km away from the Fukushima but the radiation risks made it difficult for the event to take place.
Some of the riders have also been questioning about the risk factors at the venue. Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa have expressed not to take part in the Japanese Grand Prix.
However, the detailed study and the examinations made at the venue were done over a span of one week which showed no incidents at Motegi and surrounding areas. Let’s see if the circuit situation changes around the race days.
