I've lost a Cordon Blue male and Zebra male in one week. Very healthy. Seemed fine night before til suddenly they were at the bottom of the cage nearly dead in morning. a nightlight is kept on. In a new cage that's a bit smaller than the last aviary. Gouldians in same cage had airsac mites but cured. No symptoms on these two. Thoughts please??

  1. The only way to know with certainty is to have a necropsy done.

If the finches died of air sac mites you should notice gasping and a clicking sound in their breathing.  This could also be indicative of some respiratory infections.

I would certainly consider contamination of a food or water source but of the deaths continue, necropsy may reveal viral, fungal, chlamydial or bacterial disease.  It would be worth doing in order to save the rest of the flock.
