Bettor.com is preparing for its first five dog Scottish Derby Final, which gets underway TONIGHT live on Sky Sports 4 at 8:00pm, and it looks set to be an entertaining watch.
The Bettor.com Scottish Derby this year got off to a sensational start. There was an incredible 60 dogs lined up for entry, of which 12 had to be turned away due to 48 being the maximum for the classic, and Farley Blitz was favourite from the start. However, once it got underway, the heats and quarterfinals shook up the competition as prominent market players Jordansoilutions, Mill Bling Bling and Farley Blitz all crashed out. However, this was eclipsed by last Saturday’s Semi Finals, which saw Westmead Grant disqualified for deliberate interference on the eventual winner Taylors Cruise.
The last time a five dog Derby Final took place at Shawfield was in 2005, when Carly Philpotts’ Ballymac Kewell was withdrawn on the day of the race due to injury.
It’s been an incredible couple of weeks. We’ve had great weather compared to last year, an influx of top quality dogs, and race nights that have kept punters on their toes! And although it’s a shame what happened at the semi’s, this is one of the most competitive finals Shawfield has seen on paper. In fact, the dogs are of such quality that it’s tricky picking a winner.
The Finals night will provide punters with the perfect opportunity to win a bit of cash as the competition remains wide open. On Bettor.com Taylors Cruise is favourite with odds of 3.4 (2.4/1), Beaming Dilemma is priced at 3.93 (2.93/1), Farloe Force at 4.45 (3.45/1), Pablo Supreme at 5.00 (4/1) and Bubbly Razldazl at 7.7 (6.7/1).
Taylors Cruise in Trap 1 is blessed with fantastic early pace, but as showed at Wimbledon his record in major race finals isn’t great. In Trap 2 is Bubbly Razldazl, who has failed to taste victory in the Derby campaign as yet – finishing second, third and second - but has always had a bad draw until now so could be one to watch. In Trap 3 is Beaming Dilemma who has won his last two semi-finals and clocked an impressive 29.04secs last Saturday. The dog also won the Bettor.com Maiden Trophy Final last year and has improved hugely over the winter. In Trap 4 is Farloe Force who has only won one of his three Derby races, and may struggle to pass the others to the rails to lead after the first bend. In Trap 5 is another Irish contender, Pablo Supreme, who, like the entire field, will need to lead if serious about picking up the £25,000 prize.
Broadcast live from Shawfield Stadium in Glasgow, Bettor.com confirms that tomorrow evening’s programme has been extended to two and a half hours from the typical two hours.
With the extra time that has kindly been allocated by Sky to this year’s Derby, we decided to add a 670m Stayers race to the card as they’re always popular with punters and dog trainers alike.
Looking forward to Saturday and I expect there will be more drama on Finals night than we’ve had throughout the competition, so I wish punters the best of luck with their bets. After what we’ve seen so far, I bet that this is going to be one very entertaining final!
