I have 1 algae eater who is almost 5 1/2 inches. 2 frogs, about 3 inches, and that's all. In a TEN gallon tank. The frogs are grey clawed (that's what the pet store said, not very helpful!) and I don't want them to get big.

Should I return them, and get some smaller fish and smaller frogs? Like the spunky african dwarfs? I would like a frog that won't get as big as my pinkee @ full growth.

  1. Get rid of all of them,

    1. Buy a Snail or Shrimp, since they clean and stay smaller.

    2. Get A few Guppies if you're looking for smaller fish.

    3. Add African Dwarf Frogs if you'd like.

    4. Stick with the 10" of Fish per Gallon. It works pretty well, though I usually go over it.

  2. your "algae eater" sounds more like a pleco. get a chinese algae eater. they rarely get big.

  3. an algae eater is not a fish its a common name for many bottom-dwelling fish that feed on algae

what sort of algae eater do you have

    Chinese algae eater

    Siamese's algae eater

    plecostomus

    or

bristlenose plecostomus (small type of pleco)

i think all these fish need more than 10 gallons

    ---------- ------------- -------------- --------------- ---------- ----------------

do not get a chinese algae eater as stated above. they grow large and kill fish

  4. i am going to guess your frogs are albino clawed frogs...they do get a good size and will eat fish...definitely return them and go with african dwarf frogs...they will stay small and not harm anything..

  5. Your algae eater will almost always get big,no matter what size you get.Frogs also will grow.Like any fish or animal, they don't stay the same size.

  6. If you don't want large critters...take them all back...the pleco will get huge...clawed frogs bet bigger than a base-ball....in a 10 gallon you could have 1 dwarf african frog, 3-5 Tiger barbs, 2 Cory Cats, and 1-2 Jellybean Cichlids...( watch the Jellybeans...some people dye them, if the color in bright yellow-purple-blue-red- they are dyed, they won't live long...Jellybeans should be white or a very light pink) I'll include a pic of mine, they are not dyed, all these fish prefer warm water about 78-80 degrees. Good luck.
