FIVB Anti-Doping Programme: 3,600 athletes complete course
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) is always concerned about the fair means in the sport of indoor and beach volleyball.
The Federation has always encouraged the players to practice clean methods and showcase their original talent on the court. In this regard, FIVB timely releases different guidelines for athletes to stay away from drugs and performance enhancing substances.
The FIVB has even established a special Anti-Doping Board, which is solely responsible for maintaining the standards of the game.
In the recent memory, FIVB offered a specialized Anti-Doping education programme to the athletes. Around 3,600 players became part of the campaign and learned about the doping rules. It is almost mandatory for athletes to get familiar with rules related
to Anti-Doping.
This program was specially designed to provide an interactive and effective learning experience to the participants of the program. The program was made up of different videos and questions on a range of Doping topics. It also explained the Therapeutic Use
Exemptions (TUEs) and use of different objects, which fall in the category of banned items.
The President of the FIVB Medical Commission, Dr Roald Bahr commented, “Fortunately, the FIVB Anti-Doping Program continues to show that Volleyball athletes are clean. The adverse analytical findings we have in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball are almost
exclusively players related to taking contaminated nutritional supplements or restricted medication. Most of these could be avoided if the athlete were aware of the rules and risks involved.”
He further added, “The FIVB therefore saw the need in establishing an Anti-Doping education programme. Through our online programme "We play it clean!" we are able to reach out to a large number of Athletes and Team Support Personnel all over the world.
The programme delivers education in a very engaging way on a range of Anti-Doping topics and suits all type of users from athletes to coaches and doctors.”
This was indeed a successful campaign and brought out desired results. The athlete got a chance to learn about the different new things. FIVB has also launched an iPhone application for players’ guidance. Moreover, the information about prohibited substances
is also available on the official website of FIVB.
