The Grand Regency Hotel in Qatar saw the drawing ceremony of the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships 2011. By playing host to this international event, Qatar will have earned itself the privilege of holding the championships for the third time in a
row.
There is still time for the participating teams to prepare now that they know what they are up against as the pools have been decided. The championship itself will not take place until the 8th of October and will go on till the 14thof
the same month.
According to what came out in the draw, the defending champions, Trentino Betclic of Italy find themselves in Pool B. Last year was not the only time that Trentino were able to make it to the top of the championship; they were also the winners of the title
the year before. Trentino has earned itself the honour of being the second club in volleyball history who has bagged the world title twice, the first one being Misura Milano. Misura Milano accomplished the task in 1990 and1992. However, Trentino remains the
only club to have won the titles in a consecutively.
They are accompanied by the champions from Africa, Al Ahly of Egypt. The host team, Al Arabi chose to be part of this competitive group by opting for Pool B themselves. This privilege of selection was available to Al Arabi as they are the hosts of the championship.
The fourth team in Pool B will be the South African champions once it is determined who gets to hold the title.
Likewise in Pool A, three teams are certain with the Asian champions yet to be decided. The rest of the teams that make up the pool are Jastrzebski from Poland, Trinity Western Spartans Vancouver from Canada and Zenit Kazan of Russia.
The Club World Championships were first held in 1991 and lasted for three years after which they came to a halt. However, Qatar saw them come back to life again in 2009 after a period of 17 years.
