FIVB announces schedule for second qualification round of 2012 FIVB Volleyball World League
The FIVB recently announced the schedule for the second qualification round of the 2012 FIVB Volleyball World League. The qualification matches will see a clash between the Canadian side and the Slovakia team. On the other hand, the Chinese are lined up
for a match against the Egyptians.
Of all the teams that are participating in the prestigious tournament that is held on a yearly basis, the Slovakian side was the last to enter the lineup. They were able to accomplish this by handing out a defeat to the Spanish side in a match that went
on for five long and grueling sets. The win was obtained by the Slovakian side in the title match of the European League that took place on the Sunday, July 17.
The first set of the match was won by Slovakia while Spain tied the match by winning the second set. After having lost the third set, the Slovakian team pulled themselves together and scrapped together a win by bagging the fourth and the fifth set of the
match. The final set scores stood at the following points in favour of Slovakia: 25-22, 22-25, 24-26, 25-22 and 15-12.
The matches between the Slovakian team and Canada will start from the 29thand last till 30th of July. The Slovakian team will be playing with the added difficulty of being in their opponent’s home ground as the venue of the matches
is Scotiabank Place in Ottawa.
On the other hand, the Chinese team was able to get into the qualification round by beating the Iranian team. Their opponents, Egypt, got into the running by being selected by the Confederation Africane de Volleyball. The place where the Chinese and the
Egyptian teams will compete against each other on the 30th and 31st of July is Taicing, China as the Egyptian team will be gearing up to face the home crowd of their opponents.
If the teams that are able to win the first round matches, they will then face either Puerto Rico or Protugal. The venues of these matches are yet to be declared.
