FIVB announces schedule of 2011 Beijing Grand Slam – Volleyball news
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has announced today, Friday, April 15, 2011 that Beijing, China will be the prestigious host of sixth event of SWATCH FIVB World Tour this year.
The talk process was going on for quite long and finally the word has been out that Beijing Grand Slam Beach Volleyball Tournament will be featured on the 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Calendar. The double-gender event of Beijing Grand Slam will take place
from June 6 to 11. The FIVB disclosed the information after seeking an official agreement for concerning authorities from the host country.
The Chaoyang Park Beach in Beijing will be the home action. It would be the first time since 2008 Beijing Olympic Games that Chaoyang Park will host a major Beach Volleyball competition on its sands.
It will be the first Grand Slam event of the season in Beijing. The other five Grand Slam Tournaments will be played in Stavanger, Norway; Gstaad, Switzerland; Moscow, Russia; Stare Jablonki, Poland and Klagenfurt, Austria, respectively.
The women’s and men’s beach volleyball duos from around the world will be on board to contest their abilities at the 2011 Beijing Grand Slam. The first Grand Slam of the 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour will offer a total amount of $300,000 as prize money.
The 2011 edition of SWATCH FIVB World Tour will start off with the Brasilia Open, which will be hosted by Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro. The double gender competition will last from April 17 to 23. Next up would the Sanya Open Tournament in China, which
will complete its length from April 26 to May 1.
The beach volleyball duos will remain in China for the next Open tournament in Shanghai. The Shanghai Open will run from May 3-8, while Myslowice Open in Poland will be last event before the official opening of a Grand Slam Tournament. The Myslowice Open
will end in the month of May and once again, the teams will head to Beijing, China to take part in the first Grand Slam competition of 2011.
The Beijing Grand Slam will be followed by Beach Volleyball World Championship in Rome, Italy. Later on, the FIVB has planned three more Grand Slam tournaments in a row.
