FIVB elections slated for September – Volleyball news
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has announced that the elections for the new FIVB President and Board of Administration minority gender will be held in coming September.
The decision was made by FIVB Board of Administration in its official meeting, which took place at the headquarters of FIVB in Lausanne, Switzerland from Saturday to Monday. The FIVB Board Members discussed different issues and formulized new policies.
Alongside other important things, the presidential and minority gender elections were also on the agenda of meeting. This particular matter was brought under discussion on the final day of the meeting (Monday) and the members unanimously approved the elections
in September.
A total of three candidates will compete in the elections for the FIVB President. The current President of USA Volleyball (USAV) and the member of FIVB Board of Administration, Mr. Doug Beal is running for the elections of FIVB President. The other two candidates
are Dr. Ary Graça of Brazil and Chris Schacht from Australia. Dr. Graça currently holds the office of FIVB Executive Vice-President.
Moreover, he is the President of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation and the South American Volleyball Confederation. Schacht has been performing his duties as the President of the Australian Volleyball Federation.
On the other hand, Indonesia’s Rita Subowo, Marta Centeno O. De Sajche of Guatemala, and Vilja Savisaar-Toomast of Estonia will run for the elections of FIVB Board of Administration. They will compete for the minority gender positions. All these ladies have
held influential roles in their respective regions. Subowo and Centeno O. De Sajche are the FIVB Executive Vice-Presidents in their countries, while Savisaar-Toomast is the active President of the Estonian Volleyball Federation.
The acting President of International Volleyball Federation, Jizhong Wei, said, “This will be the first democratic election in the history of the FIVB.”
He has ensured the democratic and transparent election. For the purpose of elections, the FIVB Board of Administration has approved an Advisory Election Committee that will be responsible for the whole process. The committee will be chaired by Jizhong Wei
and it will include the presidents of the five Continental Federations.
