FIVB men’s Junior World championship: Pool F update - Volleyball
The FIVB men’s Junior world championship took a day off on the 4th of August to start play the next day in the second round of the tournament taking place in Brazil. The top eight teams are divided into pools E and F. Pool F finds itself featuring
Argentina, Brazil, Serbia and India.
Argentina was initially in Pool B and the last match that the team played in the first round of the tournament was against Spain. Argentina was able to accomplish a win over the Spanish by 3-1 and secure itself the top position in the pool. The final set
scores at the end of the match were as follows: 25-20, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-8. With their win, the Argentinean team was able to tally a record of three wins accomplished against no loss.
The Brazilians got into the second round after a sparky five set match against the Bulgarians that was a treat to watch for the Brazilian fans that were rooting for their home team. The opening set was lost by the Brazilians at 23-25 but they took the second
set by putting up an impressive performance that got Brazil the win at 25-19. The Bulgarians got themselves the advantage by securing the third set at 25-23 but the Brazilians were successful in equalizing the match by taking the fourth set at 25-23. As the
match went to a decisive fifth round, the Brazilians did not waste much time in sealing the deal at 15-8.
Serbia got into the second round by handing out a defeat to the Canadians in a five set long match and earning itself the top spot in Pool D. Despite the fact that the match consisted of five sets, each one of them was fairly one sided. The opening set saw
the Serbians secure a comfortable win at 25-17 while the Canadians won the second set at 25-19. Similarly, the Serbians did not have a hard time securing the third set of the game at 25-15. The fourth set was the only one in which the two teams were equally
matched and gave each other some challenge. The match remained interesting till the final stages of the set but the Bulgarians prevailed in sealing the deal at 25-21. However, the Serbians started the fifth set rejuvenated and cut a long story short by grabbing
a win at 15-4.
The last match of the first round that the Indian team played was against the Egyptians, who they defeated by making a clean sweep. The victory got the Indians second place in Pool C and the final set scores were as follows: 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18.
Now that the respective teams are in Niteroi and Rio de Janerio, the second round is waiting to commence.
