FIVB president says volleyball accomplished a lot in 2011 – Volleyball update
The President of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) Mr. Jizhong Wei recapped the development work and achievements of FIVB in the last 12 months and passed positive remarks.
He highlighted different campaigns of FIVB, which proved to be great success. Overall, he said that volleyball family throughout the world accomplished a lot in the year 2011.
The FIVB President Wei expressed delight about the overwhelming success of 2011 SWATCH FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. Everything went according to the plan and the FIVB gave great opportunities to the aspiring athletes to showcase their talent to the
world. He especially mentioned the Grand Slam Tournament in Rome and appreciated the efforts of Italian Volleyball Federation and volleyball community, who put on a spectacular show. Likewise, the SWATCH FIVB World Tour featured some new places this year and
received good response.
In the same year, FIVB launched its “Heroes” campaign, which proved to be an effective marketing strategy to promote the sport of volleyball. In this regards, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) installed big statues of the volleyball stars at
Foro Italico.
Moreover, FIVB worked on various development projects. One of the main ventures was “We Can End Poverty – Millennium Development Goals” with United Nations. It showed FIVB’s urge to grow both on and off the court. Meanwhile, the FIVB launched the Development
Fund for needy national federations in various countries of the world. It turned out to be huge success as $2.6m funds were collected. The amount was spent on the development of volleyball in Africa, South America, and some other NORCECA regions.
The FIVB also closely worked with International Olympic Committee (IOC) and formed a close relationship.
In the year 2011, Burundi Volleyball Federation (BVF) organised their first Volleyball for Peace festival, which ran for five days. The FIVB totally supported the BVF to run the peace project. President Wei was heartened to see the efforts of local organisers
and praised the nice work.
In the end, FIVB President wished entire volleyball family a happy New Year and hoped that the growth of volleyball will be continued with same zeal and zest.
