FIVB proposes a new plan for volleyball events in Japan – Volleyball news
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has recently proposed a revised plan for the upcoming volleyball events in Japan, the country which was struck by a massive destruction last month duo to the deadly earthquake.
The International Volleyball Federation constantly kept in touch with the Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) and showed enormous emotional support for them.
Japan has been known for its passionate volleyball fans over the years, while the country is represented by both male and female team in the international competitions. This year, the Japanese Men’s team returned to the 2011 FIVB World League after missing
out last year.
According to the previous plan, the team was scheduled to play three matches at home. The cities of Koshigaya, Nagasaki and Wakayama were chosen by the FIVB to host the World League matches.
However, currently Japan is going through a tough phase and is not a position to host such activities. Considering the present circumstances, the International Volleyball Federation has come up with a revised plan for the upcoming events in Japan.
In the first place, the FIVB has decided that Japanese team will take part in the 20111 FIVB World League but the matches will be played outside Japan. Since the Japanese team has been placed in Pool B along with Germany, Russia and Bulgaria, the matches
will be played in Germany, Russia and Bulgaria respectively.
The 2011 FIVB World League will be kicked off on May 27, while Japan will take on Germany on the 11th and 12th of June. Similarly, Russia will host the next two pool matches of Japan on 18-19th of June. Japanese team will cross their ways with the Bulgarian
team on 25-26 June.
The second Vice President of FIVB and Sports Events Council President, Theofanis Tsiokris explained the reason for change of plan.
He stated, “To confirm Japan’s matches away from home is a decision absolutely necessary taking into consideration the start of the World League is less than two months away.”
Besides the FIVB World League, the World Grand Prix and the men’s Volleyball World Cup was also supposed to take place in Japan. The FIVB is considering the new venues for the other two events but the final world has not been given out yet.
The venues for these two events will be decided later on. The FIVB Grand Prix runs in the month of August, while the World Cup is held in November. The FIVB is working on these projects and will soon decide on the match venues.
