FIVB reveals the schedule of 2012 Olympic Games Volleyball Tournament – Volleyball News
Finally the wait is over as Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has disclosed the schedule of volleyball competition at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The news has been just released from the head quarters of FIVB in Lausanne, Switzerland. The President of International Volleyball Federation Jizhong Wei took the pleasure to announce the schedule. He stated, “We are pleased to announce the schedule for
the volleyball competition at the London Olympic Games. Following the exciting qualification process we concluded earlier this month we can now confirm the timing of the exciting match ups ahead.”
“Everything is set for the London 2012 volleyball competition. The schedule has been announced by the FIVB and we look forward to both welcoming the teams and watching some exciting matches which will comprise the best players in the world,” said London
2012 Director of Sport Debbie Jevans.
The Olympic volleyball competition will be opened with women’s matches on July 28 at the Earl Courts in London. The opening day will feature a total of six matches and teams from 12 participating countries will fight for volleyball supremacy.
Japan and Algeria will have the honour to break the ice in the first Olympic match. China and Serbia will go head to head in the second match, while third match of the day-1 will bring the hosts Great Britain in competition with powerhouse Russia. Likewise,
Italy will take on Dominican Republic and American women will cross their ways with Koreans. Last match on the opening day will be played between Brazil and Turkey.
Following the start of women’s competition, the men’s teams will come into action on the next day. The 2012 Men’s Olympic Volleyball Tournament will be kicked off on July 29 with 12 teams. A total of six matches will be played on the opening day of the tournament.
Bulgaria is scheduled to clash with the hosts in the first match. Later in the day, teams from Russia, Germany, Australia, Argentina, USA, Serbia, Italy, Poland, Brazil, and Tunisia will contest their skills on the centre court in front of the international
audience.
The medal matches will be played on August 11 and 12, respectively, which will put an end to the Olympic Volleyball Tournament.
