FIVB training course in Trinidad & Tobago turns out to be huge success – Volleyball news
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) recently organised a training course for liberos in Western Caribbean state of Trinidad & Tobago.
The FIVB training course kicked off on Wednesday, March 21 and successfully covered its length in seven days. A total of nine coaches from all across the Caribbean region participated in the course and benefitted from the amazing opportunity.
The International Volleyball Federation provided the backdrop for the training course. The National Volleyball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago received full support from the FIVB, in order to make this event happen. The President of the National Volleyball
Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (TTVF) Mushtaque Mohammed played a vital role in the operations of the training course. He was co-ordinated and assisted by Nelson Ramirez, who is currently serving as the director of FIVB Development Centre in Dominican Republic.
Likewise, the Academy Director of TTVF Volleyball Peer Nassier also contributed to the success of the event.
The course was conducted by an official FIVB instructor, while head coach of Denmark men’s national volleyball team Tony Westman also offered his services as a teacher at the seven-day training activity.
Furthermore, the coaches from Grenada, , Belize, hosts Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Suriname, Bahamas, St. Lucia and St. Kitts also showed up at the event and shared their knowledge of the game with aspiring liberos.
For those who do not know about liberos, the volleyball libero is the defensive specialist in the team. The liberos usually stay near the back line and play an instrumental role in digging.
However, the defence expert is the only player who is not limited by rules of rotation. He is allowed to trade positions with other players in the team during a match.
Usually, the liberos replace the middle blockers but never replace the front row attackers.
The FIVB training course in Trinidad & Tobago was especially designed to help the liberos. This is the first training course of the year that focused on training of libero. Previously, the FIVB conducted Level I and Level II courses in four different cities
of the world.
