FIVB unveils schedule of 2012 World Olympic Qualification Tournament – Volleyball news
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has recently announced the complete schedule of 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament.
The official news was released from the head quarters of FIVB in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday, May 15. According to the plan, the influential women’s world qualification tournament will be held in Japan from May 19 to 27.
A total of four Olympic tickets will be on stake, while the national teams of eight countries will enter the competition. Japanese Capital Tokyo will set up the field of play for the thrilling volleyball encounters. The participating teams will install their
bases at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
Host Japan will be joined by teams from Russia, Thailand, Peru, South Korea, Cuba, Chinese Taipei, and Serbia. The competition will cover its length in nine days and each day will feature four matches, while the teams will take on each other once in a round-robin
format. The tournament will also feature two rest days on May 21 and 24.
Most of the participants of the 2012 FIVB World Olympic Qualification Tournament are trying for the Olympic berths after failing in the first attempt. However, this is going to be the last chance for all participating teams to earn tickets to the 2012 London
Olympic Games. Top four teams will catch the limelight, while the rest will be disqualified.
Host Japan is all up to profit from the familiar conditions. The local team will be equipped with great support of passionate fans and it is likely that the team will manage to finish in the top three. Japan will take on Peru in the opening match of the
qualification tournament on Saturday.
Elsewhere world champions Russia will cross ways with Thailand. The 2011 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix bronze medallists Serbia will be challenged by Asian counterpart Chinese Taipei, while Korea will clash with Caribbean team from Cuba on the opening
day.
