I have a major flea problem that started off as minor and now is becoming a pain.

The main issue is that I have 1 dog, 2 cats and 4 kittens running around so I am not sure if I can flea bomb because I don't know what I'll do with the animals. I will treat the older animals (2 cats & 1 dog) with Frontline but how do I prevent the fleas from staying OFF The kittens. I bathed them in Dawn which killed them but they were all back this morning. I am moving in a week and do not want to carry the fleas with me, what's my best bet? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

  1. First you need to choose a room you can close off.  Then you have to get all the animals out of that room and flea bomb it with the door closed.  Once you are sure it's flea free, bath the kittens with the dish soap again.  Dry them and close them into the flea-free room with a small litter box and some food.  Then bath all the adult animals with flea shampoo, dry them and put them in flea-free carriers and put them in the flea-free room.  Make sure it's really closed off completely.  If there's a screened window, open it.  Put a towel or something across the bottom of the door to seal it off.  Then bomb the rest of the house.  When you return, wash all the bedding.  Then take the adult animals out of the carriers and treat them (just in case).  Hopefully, that should do it.  It worked for our flea infestation.  It's a lot of work, but it was the only thing that got rid of the fleas for good.

  2. Use just plain IVORY dish soap.  Just dont get it in their eyes.  Work from the head back because they will run to the head.  Leave it on for 10 minutes and they will suffocate and die. The fleas,  not your pets.

    Dawn should have worked though.

  3. You should call the vet up, and see what they recommend for the kittens based on their age.  There are some products that you can use on younger kittens, but it depends on their age.  Plus, besides the fact they all will most likely end up with tapeworms from ingesting the fleas, the kittens can be susceptible to anemia and die, especially if they're very young.

Lots of vacuuming, even pick up some Borax laundry booster, sprinkle it on the carpeting-it's supposed to suffocate the young fleas and absorb the eggs I guess.  Let it sit on the carpet overnight then vacuum.  Treat the adult animals asap with the Frontline or Advantage.  Wash any of the pets toys or bedding and put in the dryer on a high heat, or at least put it through a cycle with some heat for awhile. Then put them in a bag until you move.  Frontline also makes a spray you can spray around the house, get everywhere.....and lock the animals up until the stuff dries.

    Good luck!

  4. I know, my friends animals have fleas and the vet said they are really bad this year. I read that one adult flea lays like 50 eggs a day! There life span is only 5 days but with eggs being laid all the time it makes them really hard to actually get rid of. Vacuums are fleas worst nightmare. Make sure when you vacuum you get everywhere, in corners, couches, especially where your animals sleep. You can't bomb with animals in the house, which you already know anyway. The problem is you have to treat all animals at once, and your house, yard, ect to actually get rid of the problem. But with kittens i don't know how you can actually keep fleas off without at least a flea collar. I don't now how old they are and what you can use on them for now. Being your moving in a week, make sure all animals are treated right before you leave or right when you get to your new place. That way any fleas or flea eggs will be dead when you get there. Make sure whatever you buy kills flea eggs too or else it just kills adult fleas and the eggs will still hatch. Good Luck!

  5. The kittens can use frontline 8 weeks and up.  Make sure you sweep or vacuum 2 times a day because fleas reproduce like crazy.
