  1. omg i had this problem a couple of weeks ago! i had never seen these huge flies before, they were as big as horseflies but they were NOT...they were giant houseflies! i kept finding them everywhere and also could not figure out where they came from!

all i can tell you is what i did, and it resulted (in a few days) in getting rid of them. i was limited bc i have a 19month old and i'm pregnant. you may be able to get rid of them better, but what i did was :

    cleaned garbage cans with bleach

cleaned back porch with bleach (had stored garbage there)

kept killing them in house with a flyswatter whenever i saw them

turned the air conditioner way down to 68-69 whenever i could stand it...flies don't like it below 70.

after a few days, they disappeared as quickly as they had come.

    good luck

  2. Like moonlit said,

Flies are attracted to rotting things. Things that would attract bacteria. If there is something that could have a bad infestation of bacteria, flies will come to it.

    Bleach bleach bleach.

Keeping your house spick and span.  Especially if you have children or pets, food or other could be trapped in corners of kitchen floors and carpets even if you vaccum/wash.  Inspect your house and find the source. Check under the fridge for spilled items.

Make sure your freezer is FROZEN.. if the meat inside isnt cold enough, flies will be attracted to it.

Clean out cabinets. Any food that has to be in there, make sure it is SECURELY CLOSED.. double bag, or put in containers.

Keep fruit and veggies in the open fresh. Any rotting will attract bugs.

Empty soda cans/beer cans/or other containers that had food in it perhaps sitting in a recycling bin. Keep them away from your house. If you don't take recycling out enough, make sure you get in the habit of rinsing everything well before putting it aside.

Can't really think of anything else. But I just know the smallest thing can attract flies..  as a child I was traumatized after looking under the fridge, there was spilled jelly and god knows what else -- and maggots were loving it. :)

Fly paper and other works well to kill them, but it wont stop the cause. Need to find the root of your problems. Even an exterminator -- all they do is just kill the initial infestation.  Unless you figure out why and how they are coming inside, they'll come back and you'll lose a lot of money :)

  3. Try flypaper and spray around all your windows.

  4. The nest must be somewhere nearby may not be in the kitchen but outside. How about your neighbours? Are they also having the same problems? Files are attracted to rotting stuff. They multiply by laying their eggs in rotten food or meat. That's how the larvae feed and grow into adult flies. You may have to get the pest exterminator if this problem doesn't go away by three days.

  5. wow... i would like call and exterminator...but if you dont want to spend the money, look around your kitchen for like rottin food under the fridge, oven, or somewhere else hidden...

if that doesnt work and nothin else has open your windows and doors to let the flies out.
