  1. In Floyd's case, RISK IT.  Because he hasn't built any "Legacy" to speak of.  He's undefested but ALI could have said the same after his exile.  HE never lost to anyone except the US Govt.  Instead he came back and defeated the best fighters the hvt. division has ever seen before or since.

Im not saying Floyd should stick around long enough to be beaten but this ploy of his, in order to gain attention, will only hurt him and his legacy when he decides to return,  and he will.  The time off will hurt him most.

Besides narrowly beating Oscar and a blown up crude Jr. welter in Hatton, what has he done.  Dont tell me his win over Zab Judah means anything.   Every common opponent he has with Miguel Cotto has lost more decisively to Cotto.

If Floyd has only ONE fight it should be against Miguel Cotto.  Cotto should not be fighting Margarito, but he's brave so he won't back down.  And Margarito is an even greater threat to him than Mayweather.  IF Cotto loses (which is very possible) than Mayweather can say "See that's why I didnt fight him".  What will his excuse be for not fighting Margarito.

I really think Floyd's just doing this for attention.  He's really not THAT big that he can claim some measure of greatness just because he's undefeated.  Is he REALLY even P4P best today?  Joe Calzaghe is undefeated too, with a more impressive list of opponents on his record.

Leonard didnt really NEED to fight Marvin Hagler.  He could have remained retired after his detatched retina and still no one would question his greatness at welterweight.  How could they, he'd already defeated Hearns and Benitez and avenged his lone defeat to Duran.  Considering the accomplishments of Those men, that's HUGE.

Facing Marvin Hagler was just icing on the cake.  Though many dispute the decision Leonard still won when he didn't even have to face Marvin.  All his other fights after Marvin were really meaningless but still Ray got THE MOST out of his career and is STILL sharp.  What has Floyd really done to deserve to be in the company of the welterweight greats.

Sorry, people keep talking TOP 10.  Im not even sure Floyd ranks in the top 10 at Welterweight, much less P4P.  You HAVE to retire SOMETIME but I just can't justify ranking him with Leonard, Hearns or Duran while he's still at top but refusing to face, by FAR,  his greatest challenge.  Because of public perception Miguel Cotto would have to work Twice as hard to reach the same stature as Mayweather.  That's why they NEED to fight each other.

In this case, there IS NO "LEGACY" to risk.  He has a good record but he has accomplished NOTHING that indicates he's anywhere near Legendary Status.

  2. I think he has to keep fighting if wants to have a legacy. When i look back at his career the moments that stand out are his altercation with judah, fighting for WWE and avoiding Cotto,Margarito,Wiliams,Mosley,Winky and Quintana or getting punch 10 straight times by Oscar De La Hoya, Who was just to past his prime to hurt him or anyone.

Sugar Ray Leonard,Duran, Hearns Chavez,Camacho,Ali,Frazier,Forman,Tyson,... la Hoya,Sugar Ray Robinson and Marciano all fought other greats in the prime while in there prime and if Mayweather truly stays away i will always know he had a chance to be the greatest but will always know he never will or can be because he didnt prove it.

I would respect more a man with 4 losses who fought the best then a man with a perfect record who didnt. Diego Corrales lost 5 times but i respect his efforts more so then i can say for a Chavez jr who is 36-0 or Mayweather who is 39-0 because corrales should his heart and courage.

Even Oscar De la hoya who lost to Floyd, Mosley Trinidad and Hopkins can at least say he lost but only to fellow hall of famers in there prime but he can also say he beat a few hall of famers as well. Mayweather though can not say the same because even when he beat  DLH he was past his time and is evident with Hatton he has been in the start of his decline since the fight before Floyd.

  3. his legacy aint that great. right now he still in his prime and can improve that legacy.

  4. He should fight again to prove that he is really great,

we got no defeats but he didn't fight some of the great welterweight boxers...
