FMX Professionals join forces to create safety guidelines for competitions and demonstrations
The professional freestyle motocross (FMX) riders have collaborated to come up with new set of safety guidelines that will help to make FMX competitions and demonstrations safer.
In order to reduce the risk of injury, some of the biggest names in the sport have joined forces to make their valuable contributions and suggestions in order to come up with the most effective guidelines. These names include Andre Villa, Robbie Maddison,
Drake McElroy, Nate Adams and Adam Jones, all of whom have a vast experience of competing in competition and putting on demonstrations and are expected to make the most of their understanding of the sport.
“There will always be danger in our sport, but it is time we as riders make a point and change, to make it as safe as possible,” explained Villa. “The goal is to improve on rider safety. With some of the major promoters agreeing to adhere to the new FMX
safety guidelines, it is looking good for other event promoters to follow. The guidelines list reasonable expectations that a rider has, which can give the event promoter an idea of what is expected, direction when building and setting up a course.”
The product of the collaboration between the five riders is a four-page document that has been endorsed by a long list of professional FMX riders. In order to explain the safety guidelines effectively, the aid of various diagrams have been taken that range
from dimensions of take off ramps to arena heights and area padding.
Villa has already circulated the guidelines within the FMX community with the intended motivation of utilising their suggestions to make improvements in the original guidelines. Once the necessary changes are made to the guidelines, the final version of
it will be transformed into a website titled “Save A Brother” that will not only display the guidelines but also give ramp specifications to make the sport safer for FMX athletes.
The guidelines have received a positive response from the FMX professionals so far, who are glad to see an initiative to make the sport safer. It still remains to be seen whether the event organisers will take these guidelines into consideration. More importantly,
the exact effectively of these guidelines will only become evident once they are actually implanted.
