  1. We DO! ...  Considering how afraid he was of the camera before, I thought he did a SPECTACULAR job on his debut!   But, then, he was my favorite all along:)

  2. I say yes we should like him. Even though I am not a big fan of the Next Food Network Star, I enjoyed watching it this time. Aaron McCargo may be afraid of the camera some times but when you see the show you can hardly tell and with time it will be as if the camera is not even there. I think the fact that he incorporates his sons into the show is a great way to tell what kind of man and chef he is. He reminds you of your uncle that doesn't just do the occational BBQ.

  3. Well, Aaron's an affable guy, but he was really uneasy in front of the camera - even though he seemed more natural then his contestants at times. Remember his costar Adam bombing in front of the Coast Guard? He succeeded when others flopped. Aaron said of himself: "I have a problem relating to the camera. It really is the hardest part of this whole thing for me." But Judge Bob Tuschman blogs about McCargo: "Aaron is all calm and reason in the midst of chaos. And he's a genuine and instinctively talented chef. But you can hear the nerves in his voice when he has to talk directly to a camera or a crowd. He gets quivery, cotton mouthed, and stumbly. You feel for the guy. But you wouldn't want to watch this on TV."

So I think he's had some great coaching from Bobby Flay and Gordon Elliot, but who's the real Big Daddy? For me, it's yet to be seen.

He's shown that he has the chops in the kitchen, whether it was the NY strip, the broccoli burger pizza, the stuffed porkloin, or the chicken parmesean - the guy can cook. But what else does he bring to the culinary table? These are all pretty common foods, so he'll have to be a little more creative for me to watch his show. I'm looking for more than just comfort food. I liked Amy Finley and thoght she was creative, but  she's no where to be seen.

And if you go back and look at Las Vegas, Aaron was pretty lucky. His Vegas-style buffet was nothing special; it looked no better than a Ryan's Steakhouse buffet line; nothing big or bold that screamed LV. But the stuffed porkloin was decent, and he blew Kelsey's own dish out of the water when he made that chicken parmesean. But if Lisa wasn't kind enough to let him know he was running out of time, and that he needed to start his chicken - then the winner could have been Adam or Lisa. I think Lisa's food was solid, but the judges really liked Adam's lobster mac. She had a nice LV buffet, and great stage presence in front of the casting party - but was given a tough shooting assignment on the wine cellar ropes. So Aaron's Las Vegas performance is a bit sketchy for me.

So MC, my final verdict is that I like Aaron, but I want to see him cook naturally in front of the camera, and I'm looking for some creativity in his food.

  4. I like him.  I think it will be a good show.  I kind of would like to have seen Adam's show too though. :(
