  1. In most states, parents can either directly teach you, allow you to work on your own, hirer tutors, or send you to co-ops/tutorials. Unschooling is NOT when you work on your own from textbooks. Unschooling generally refers to NOT using textbooks, and using real world experiences, non-text books, etc.

  2. most generally no. Parents do most of the teaching, at home, hence the name homeschooling.

Some places allow another person to teach a child outside the public school setting and some participate in co-ops, but as I said, most generally, no.

  3. No for someone to come to the house you usually have to pay or have a serious medical condition in a state that might provide it free (not all states do).

  4. That's one way of doing it.

    There are others.

    Google it.

  5. No.  Homeschooling is taught and/or directed by your parents.

  6. No. That is called tutoring though it can be done at your home. In homeschooling, your parent or legal guardian educates you or you have the materials and educate yourself (this is typically referred to as unschooling).

  7. No that is not necessary. If you are interested in homeschooling for high school I suggest these programs.

    For science

Apologia it is completely self-contained and has a good website.

For math try out Video Text

Also there is Abeka, Bob Jones, and many others.

You do not have to have a tutor come to your home for high school.

  8. No...not unless your parents are willing to pay (probably several thousand dollars a year) for you to have that.

Most high school aged kids (aged 12-19) are probably teaching themselves a pretty big part of the subjects they study, especially those who have been home educated since they were young (ie aren't caught up in that whole school mentality of thinking you can't learn anything without there being a teacher there to teach it to you!)

  9. State laws vary. In some states the primary instructor must be your parents. Our state struck down a similar law like this last year. It used to be that the parent(s) were legally required to do 51% of the teaching themselves. Now the parents can homeschool using any percentage of tutors, co-op teaching, and their own presentations. I suspect most states will go this way over the course of the next 5 to 10 years.

Check the current lasw for your state to see if a percentage requirement is given. The HSLDA website typically gives a thorough list of each state's laws. I would check there to see if there are any stipulated tutoring limits in your own state.
