FOTA respects WMSC decision but still undecided on Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Formula One Teams Association has decided to think over the Bahrain Grand Prix decision after it was finalised by the World Motor Sport Council in Barcelona on Friday.
Although FOTA spokesman stated that the WMSC decision was accepted with an open heart but still the Formula 1 teams will decide among themselves to race in Bahrain.
WMSC took the final verdict on the Bahrain Grand Prix which now makes it 20 races in the 2011 Formula 1 season and will be contested on October 30.
Still FOTA thinks that the Formula 1 teams will decide among themselves what to do next.
The spokesman said, “The decision is likely to be discussed internally within FOTA, and a more detailed joint position may be defined after those discussions have taken place.”
He further added that, “All FOTA teams, of which McLaren is one, acknowledge the decision made by the FIA World Motor Sport Council today.”
Previously FOTA chairman Martin Whitmarsh rejected the idea of Bahrain being reinstated in the 2011 calendar by saying that the season will become lengthy which was not acceptable.
Whitmarsh said that Formula 1 will have to build two separate technical units because the single unit will not work under that much stress.
He added that already the technical staff only gets about two months off before the next season kicks off and by stretching the Formula 1 season to December, the vacations will be cut down to only one month.
A strong reaction from other teams have also hit the news with Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn saying that the season stretch to December is not acceptable.
On the other hand, human rights organisations in Bahrain are also impressing upon the Formula 1 teams not to visit the kingdom and show their support in condemning the acts of the armed forces.
However, the race is being rescheduled for the 2011 season. Let’s see how it turns out in Sakhir in October.
