FOTA shocked as Red Bull and Ferrari hand in resignations from the Association – Formula 1 news
Red Bull and Ferrari have resigned from Formula One Teams’ Association (FOTA).
Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali had earlier raised concerns over the future of FOTA and other teams were struggling to agree on spending restrictions which caused a row to brew over Resource Restriction Agreement (RRA). Amidst the entire furore, Red Bull
and Ferrari have confirmed with separate announcements that they have resigned from FOTA.
Although both teams will still be serving their two month notice period a FOTA spokesperson mentioned that there will be talks in the next week or so over the issues at hand, and the resignation given by the two teams. The resolution will be looked into
during the meeting and see where those discussions will take the situation.
Ferrari elaborated on their decision and said, “It was a difficult decision and a great deal of thought went into it. It was taken reluctantly after analysing the current situation and the stalemate when it came to debate on some issues that were at the
core of why the association was formed, indeed with Ferrari and Luca di Montezemolo as the main instigator and promoter of ideas. It's not by chance that the President of the Maranello company held that same position and job title within FOTA up to the end
of 2009.”
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo had previously expressed his dissatisfaction over the Associations’ purpose and procedures and had earlier described that a situation could arise for the teams to back out if the issues were not resolved amicably.
Ferrari further explained the issues they would like to see some changes, and said that Formula 1 is going through a delicate period in terms of finances and understanding that point Ferrari wants to work with all parties to ensure a prospering future for
the sport.
Although Formula 1 must become and remain a test bed for advanced technological research, it should be more accessible to the general public and it should have more test days, especially to young drivers who count on these test days for better experience
in the sport.
