  1. ok since you dont know what it is (land, water,species...) Call a local pet store and ask for quick tips. But until then give it lettuce.in a box/contanier filled with a little water...then ask around for ppl that lost a turtle...AND DONT TOUCH NEAR HIS HEAD! You never know if it was wild ...it could bite

  2. Well first, you need to give it water. It could of been lost for awhile. Put it in a tank with about and inch up to 3 inches ( how big is it ) and then also put sand in just one corner. If you dont have sand, get a slighty meuim rock that will fit in the tank. Mostly it will be nie if you feed it, i would take a pic and post it around.

  3. http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/conten...  thats  a water turtle see i it has a red marking oh and feed the turtle u found lettuce in the meanwhile ok

this is a land turtle http://www.hilozoo.com/images/animals/r_...

yeah but dont put ur finger near the mouth

  4. Water turtles are mostly flat or shaped like a disk.  They have feet that look more like flippers.  The need to be kept in water.  Water turtles are very dirty and will require a filter much larger than what is recommended for fish tanks.  I usually double the size recommended for a fish tank.  Some can be tamed others I would not try to handle.  Most will eat flake food, but some require gold fish.

Land tortoises are more round in shape.  Their feet and legs are more stubby looking.  Like elephants if you can imagine what elephant feet look like.  They need to be kept dry, but given fresh water.  They will need substrate that mimics their natural environment.  Usually soil or sand.  Most tortoises eat vegetables and need variety fresh veggies everyday.  Most tortoises make good pets, but can still give nasty bites if provoked.

It my be illagal to keep a native turtle or tortise as a pet in you state.  It is in Georgia.  You need to identify it ASAP.  A turtle that drys out will die soon.  I would start by checking the natative species as turtles very rarely "run" away.  If it is wild, I would let it go in a wilderness park.  If you do decide to keep it make sure you do your home work.  Good Luck
