FP3 concluded in Turkey, Sebastian Vettel tops as Mercedes’ duo impresses again – Formula 1 news
The final Free Practice session of one hour is done and dusted in Turkey and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel tops the time charts in the concluding phase of the session with a fastest lap time of 1 minute and 26.037 seconds.
The defending champion Vettel did a good job in his RB7, coming from Friday’s practice session crash. Vettel’s closet driver was the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher who was only 0.001 seconds behind.
The weather was dry on Saturday in Turkey and most drivers used the soft and hard compound Pirelli tyres. Vettel’s fastest time came on the soft set of tyres. The German’s run was interrupted by a Kinetic Energy Recovery System failure but he still managed
to post the fastest time in the last moments of the session.
Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber did not face any issues with his KERS device and ended in third place only 0.367 seconds behind the defending champion Vettel.
Schumacher’s teammate Nico Rosberg also managed to show some competitiveness and finished in fourth place with a fastest time of 1 minute and 26.420 seconds. Mercedes ran some upgrades on their car and had a new KERS device which boosted their performance
in the session.
McLaren duo of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton landed fifth and sixth places in the final practice session in Turkey. McLaren’s duo was followed by Renault’s rookie Vitaly Petrov who once again impressed with his fast run. Petrov was the early pace setter
but finished the session in seventh place.
Ferrari’s misery continues as the Italian team’s duo, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa only managed eighth and ninth place. Alonso again faced some issues with his suspension and had to pit halfway through the session.
Completing the top ten was Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Buemi, who did his fastest lap in 1 minute and 27.080 seconds.
The qualifiers of the Turkish Grand Prix will be contested in a few hours and Vettel will face a tough competition from his teammate Webber along with the Mercedes’ duo.
