with several HUGE POWER RIGHT HANDS...............................

Kelly was rocked a little, but his chin did not fail him, he came back and threw those killer straight right hands and knocked Miranda into next week!......................................

And we all saw Taylor hit Kelly with everything he had, and Kelly got up and kicked his A$$!

These will be the same straight power shots he'll knock the sissy, slapping punching Calzaghe out with if they ever fight!

Does anyone else think Pavlik doesn't have a great chin?

  1. Kelly Pavlik has a good chin, I wouldn't call it great, but its pretty close to it.  The reason why he went down against Taylor is because he stupidly stuck his chin out to try and prove that he could take whatever Taylor had to offer.  As a result, he paid the price and went down, but the difference is, as Elmer Fuddstein pointed out- he got up and took ALL of Taylor's follow-up attack on SHAKY LEGS and never went down again, then went on to knock Taylor out- thats the mark of a true champion.  The only other time Pavlik was legitimately knocked down was when he fought a power puncher by the name of Fulgencio Zuniga, and the same thing happened to him that happened to Taylor- he got up and eventually stopped Zuniga later in the fight.  Edison Miranda is also arguably the hardest pound for pound puncher in the game right now, and Pavlik took his best shots without ever going down.  If he can take the best punches from Jermain Taylor, Edison Miranda, Fulgencio Zuniga, and Jose Luis Zertuche without being stopped, then I would definately say that he has a pretty good chin...  Even if Calzaghe somehow manages to beat him if and when they fight (and I don't think Calzaghe will beat him), I know for sure, it won't be by stoppage because Calzaghe does not have the power to stop someone like Pavlik.  The reason why Calzaghe has so many stoppages on his record is because 1) he has faced bums for the majority of his career, and 2) he gets to opponents through volume punching, not power punching.

  2. All fighters get hit hard and eventually dropped.  The difference maker is recovery time.  Last week on Friday Night Fights we saw an underdog get hurt in the first round, but he recovered fairly quickly.  As the fight wore on, you could see the favorite wasn't recovering well from shots, and after a knockdown, he didn't recover at all and actually lost in a big upset.

The point is, we all saw Pavlik hit the deck hard against Taylor, but he got his marbles back within a 10-count, and was back to normal after about a minute.  Good chin, not great.  But most importantly, he had an impressive recovery.  Many fighters aren't the same after what he took.  He's been tested, Calzaghe hasn't.

We all saw what happened to Ricky Hatton when he was dropped by Mayweather.  He didn't recover and hit the canvas again and couldn't get up.

People can say whatever they want, but reality always trumps what some biased luddite thinks.  Pavlik can get knocked down, but he's getting up.

  3. my friend, why waste your time arguing with person(s) with little or no knowledge of the sport that an elite few of us know and love so dearly !!!!

  4. Guru - I would say that Pavlik's chin is somewhat tested. A great chin, that is still in question. Muhammad Ali, Aaron Pryor, Carmen Basilio, Marvin Hagler, Jake LaMotta, Kid Gavilan, Carlos Monzon, George Chuvalo, Rocky Marciano, Harry Greb, those men had great chins. I would also say that Calzaghe's chin is somewhat tested. A great chin? No. Neither fighter has been in that all out toe to toe war when the title's on the line. Hopefully they can put this fight together and we can see who has the better chin. I'll say this, Kelly has the power to test Joe's chin. Joe doesn't have the power to test Kelly's.

Hey Frank, please answer this question my friend.

  5. Kelly has a good chin. Why does matthew speak in such a disrepsecful way to people. This blog is for Boxing fans only.

  6. Pavlik doesn't have a great chin but I do think he takes Calzaghe out

  7. Pavlik doesn't need a great chin to fight Calpusshe. Calpusshe only slaps with his punches Pavlik would KO him in 6 rounds

  8. pavlik has an ok chin, but you should get pavlik's DlCK out ya mouth

  9. of course he has a great chin, he took JTs and Mirandas best punchs right on the spot. And he got up and right after that and beat the h**l out of them. Ive never understood how people question fighters chins just because they go down. Especially vs known punchers. It boggles my mind how people are so quick to say a fighter has no chin when they never been KOed.
