  1. Yep, I actually started one on my local community.  Then.. it was like the people above that were very much a cult.  I enjoy that they are trying to save things from land fills, but everything had to be a certain way.  When writing posts, you had to offer something before you could ask for something.  Who cares, as long as things were being kept out of the landfill?  Your posts had to be set up a specific way, who cares as long as it is written in a way others can read and understand.  It all just got to be too much.  It is hard to explain, unless you experience it yourself.  Now, I still do my part to help the environment, but I certainly don't use that.

  2. nope.....

  3. i moderate a Freecycle group for my area.  it is a great way to reduce the amount of stuff that piles up at the dump.  you can get all kinds of stuff from Freecyclers.  My group has posts about everything from books to clothing to computers to furniture.

Anyone who wants to help the environment through a community effort, I highly recommend it.

  4. My parents have got it and they think it is ace. We have got loads of furniture from freecycle and we have got rid of loads of furniture on freecycle. It is a lot better than ebay because you don't have to pay anything for the things that you get, and most of the stuff is in good condition. It's better than taking any unwanted furniture etc to the tip! At least other people can get good use from your stuff!

  5. Freecycle is amazing.  I have been using it over the past year in the Gloucester area.  Its a way of either getting rid of items you no longer want but others may have good use and/or need for.  Or on the other side of things it's a great place to get stuff for free.  I receive emails each day of whats on offer and just reply to anything of use or need.

    Hope this helps

  6.   YES!! I freeeking love it !@

heres a short cut to most places

give stuff u dont want- get stuf fothers dont want- all for freeeee!!!

its a giant free trash and tresure!

    ACE!

  7. I use freecycle and the initial idea behind it is great. For those who don't use it, it's community group where people pass on their unwanted items to others for free to save things going to the landfill. One mans trash is another mans treasure and all that.

We have received some fantastic things like a stage2 car seat that retails at £150+ and a leather sofa, all for free!

In my area there are some wonderfully generous people.

However there are always those people who take anything and everything on offer in order to sell it on and make profit from other peoples kindness. Fair enough if you are doing a car boot etc but some are dealers and sell on ebay etc, there is an unwritten ule that if you intend to sell on you must let the offerer know. I think within a short space of time we all become aware of those doing it for financial gain.

Also in my group there are issues with moderators. There seems to be a lack of solid rules where they are bent or broken for certain people. Perhaps maybe just misinterpreted. Each moderator will allow or disallow different things so it sometimes hard to know where you stand. Alongside this there is also what appears to be one member in a high position abusing the freecycle power they have been given, allowing or disallowing depending on their personal opinions of other members.

On the whole freecycle is great, especially from an environmental point as anything that stops things going to the landfill and stops people buying brand new products all the time is a bonus.

Also as freeconomists (trying to live without money) it's great as the things that we really need can be obtained without spending and the things we don't need can be passed on to those who do.

It is more about giving than recieving and you are reminded to offer more than want. Also it is FREEcycle so no money should be offered or asked for, if you want to make money from your old things do a car boot sale or place a paper ad.

  8. I signed up to my local huntingdon group hoping to get rid of a tatty shed and have a number of those wanting it. i think its great and have sent a wanted message for stuff for the garden so hopefully will get some. FREERECYLING to me is a great way of keeping quantities down in  landfill as well as community good will or am i being daft - as she who knows says

  9. I have used my local freecycle group to dispose of various bathroom items after a refit of my bathrooms.  People just came along and collected the various items after emailing me and making the arrangements. I suspect that some of the items ended up in a car boot sale and so be it.  At least my old things are not filling up the landfill sites.

If I could be bothered to go to a car boot sale and sell my own stuff, I might make a bit of money but I'm not very good at bartering, don't know how much to charge for things.

  10. I've used it, several times to give stuff  away when I  didn't want to  deal with a newspaper add..

You don't have to answer your phone, just emails..But please remember that it's totally free stuff...So you can't ask for money.. :-)

  11. no i haven't

  12. Yes, lots of times to rehome items we no longer want or need. Basically you can sign up to it locally, or for any group - I live in Essex and have signed up for Wickford and Southend groups because I have easy access to both areas. Once you sign up you get e-mails via the co-ordinator from people either offering or wanting items. You'll be surprised by the things people have on offer!  We dismantled two sheds and people came and took them, we also had lots of stuff in the sheds to rehome which we no longer had use for e.g. new bath taps which we'd never used, a gerbil cage, varioius tools, an aquarium with all the bits, (excluding fish and water!).  It's a great scheme, the only drawback is 'no show-ers', this is where you get someone who'll promise to come around and don't show up - very frustrating!  Once you offer something, you get e-mails from people who would like the item, you then choose who gets it, not necessarily first come first served - you choose on merit.  I can highly recommend the scheme, it saves stuff from going in to landfill.

  13. I've used it and think its a great idea. You need to check the rules for your group as some of them add in their own quirky ones such as you can't post a "want" until you've posted an "offer" or you can only post one "want" per week etc.

  14. Never.

  15. i havent heard of it

  16. nope what is it?

  17. I use freecycle. From my experience it is a great place to get things you need, and get rid of things you dont need without throwing them away. I got some bunk beds, and my step mom uses it all the time.

You can set it up where it automatically sends all posts to your email, or just a list a couple times a day. It is very nice to have. I would recomend it to anyone!

  18. I signed up for it locally... I gave away a bed.  All the email notifications drove me crazy though.  I'm glad I didn't sign up for it with my primary email.
