FRENCH OPEN FINAL 2010: Samantha Stosur vs. Francesca Schiavone
The final match of the Women's French Open will see a clay-smooching Italian versus a monster- bumping Australian. Samantha Stosur and Francesca Schiavone will face each other on Saturday in the final match of the 2010 French Open at the scenic Roland Garros. The surprising thing is that both the players have made it to the finals of the Grand Slam for the first time in tennis history. So it would be a new and interesting experience for both the tennis stars beyond any doubt.

It is a big opportunity for both of them and they are surely going to be excited and thrilled about it. Schiavone reached her first major final after the injured Dementieva on Thursday retired unexpectedly as a result of extreme pain during the match. Elena Dementieva had earlier lost the first set of the match with a score line of 7-6 (3).

Schiavone on the other hand has become the first Italian women tennis player who has made her way in to the finals while Stosur has become the first Australian woman tennis player to make it into the Grand Slam finals in 30 years. She hammered Jelena Jankovic with a 6-1, 6-2 win to reach the final match of the French Open.

During this week, seven-seeded Stosur won against the four-time French Open champion Justine Henin following her win against Serena Williams who is a 12 times Grand Slam winner.

The first semi-final match ended suddenly as Elena Dementieva after losing her first set left the court.

The Italian afterwards fell down to her knees and kissed the clay court while celebrating her way to the final match. She rose up by saying that the clay tasted quite good while talking to the media in a very jovial mood.

The 29-year-old Schiavone has never made it beyond any Grand slams quarter final match earlier in her career. She has become a part of her country’s history now. The Italians all over the world are praising as well as celebrating her achievement.

While another record has been set at Roland Garros as nowoman has ever retired in a semi-final match in various previous editions of tennis. The second semi-final match of the French Open finished in even lesser time than the first one.  Stosur is the first Australian woman to reach the final of a Grand Slam since 1980.

Stosur after the match shared her views with the spectators and said that it’s just unbelievable to be here although it involved a lot of hard work and effort.

She started off the semi-final match confidently and showed her strength all through her game. Stosur is capable of hitting massive serves and is known for her powerful serves.

Stosur was previously considered as a doubles specialist but now she has jumped into the top 10 league for the very first time in her life.

Fifth seeded Dementieva was attempting her first Grand Slam crown while playing in the semi-final match .However the Australian might be compelled to miss out the Wimbledon which starts from the end of this month.

Seventeenth-seeded Schiavone marched from a two-love loss to win the tie. The serve was lost just once in the set by each player.

Schiavone is predicted to hit the top 10 mark in international women’s rankings for the first time probably in the coming week. After Adriano Panatta, she is the first Italian to make her way into the finals of a Grand Slam since 1976.

So the final is really going to be a nail biting clash between the two of them. The crowd would be anxiously watching to see who eventually makes it on the big day.

In the men's semi-finals, Rafael Nadal will face Jurgen Melzer on Friday. Melzer has never made it beyond the third round in his past 31 tournaments. In the other match, Robin Soderling will meet Tomas Berdych who has also reached a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time in history.
