FRIEDRICHSHAFEN defeats Euphony in Pool B match – 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
A pool B match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League- Men took place in the Belgian city of Leuven recently.
The two competing teams that locked horns together were VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN as well as the home team of Euphony ASSE-LENNIK. The match between the two sides went on until four long and thrilling sets at the end of which the guests were able to emerge as
victors over Euphony.
The recent win has enabled the FRIEDRICHSHAFEN squad to earn their ticket into the Playoffs 12 of the tournament. Euphony did not go down without putting up a good fight which is shown by the following final set scores: 30-32, 23-25, 25-20 and 21-25.
The recent win has enabled the Euphony squad to stand second in Pool B of the championship.
The opening set of the match was the most competitive of all as both the teams tried hard to gain dominance at the courts. No one was sure where the tables would turn until the very end of the frame.
The home team was able to get themselves the lead when the first technical time out came at 8-6. However, the guests did not allow their rivals to take the advantage far and made the score reach a tie at 10-10. The ASSE-LENNIK responded by taking the lead
again at 14-12 and extending it until 18-16. The score reached another tie at 18-18 and remained competitive until FRIEDRICHSHAFEN was able to end it on its terms at 32-30.
The second set saw the guests take the lead at 6-4 and extend their dominance till 12-9 but Euphony was able to close in the gap at 13-16. However, the second set too rested with the FRIEDRICHSHAFEN squad.
The Belgians responded in the third set by putting on a good show that helped them to avoid a clean sweep as they bagged the frame for themselves at 25-20. However, the third was the only frame Euphony could get its hands on as the FRIEDRICHSHAFEN was able
to secure the fourth set at 25-21.
The competition between the two sides was played in front of an audience of a total of 2,500 fans.
