FRS - is it curable, is it rare? Experienced replies please?

We had a 1yr old rex collapsed. Nurse suspected frs but the medicine was out of date by 5years so i rushed to other nearest vets to get more. Apparently it is a human drug and i keep being told is VERY expensive and to expect a large bill (so i may not want to consider requesting his ashes as this will be over £100 aswell??). Heard them say they will try a cats dose, brought our bun momentarily back to full mobility then he collapsed and died which proved to them it was frs. Was told that he would have died overnight anyway if we had'nt tried the drug. Have since learnt that heat pad, vitamin e & yoghurt will or tomato juice will recover rabbits from frs. Please give me honest answer, is this frs that easily cured? What dose of medicine would have been safe to use (do you think he was overdosed as i fear?) & is it expensive?, is this frs that rare? Would appreciate a vet's experience if possible please. I can accept an error but not dishonesty and insult to have to pay for it.

  1. I have no idea what FRS is. Is it Myxomatosis? If so no, other than expensive drugs there is no cure. Certainly nothing like tomato juice (what do you think wild rabbits eat? veg. inc. tomatoes. They still get it.)

All rabbits should be vaccined as soon as you get them, against Myx.

But if FRS is something different then sorry, I don't know what it is.

  2. I am not a vet, but I am really sorry about your rabbit and what you are going through.
