http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday. The player claimed that it has been a frustrating
season thus far as he has been on the bench and was delighted to have helped his side win the clash after saving a penalty.
Thomas Tuchel’s side downed high flying Hannover 96 in the Round 2 clash played at the AWD-Arena. A goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andreas-Ivanschitz-c5737 in the added extra-time secured the victory for the visitors, who won their first match since August
this year. They were saved in stoppage time when Wetklo saved a penalty to force extra-time.
Wetklo admitted that he has been frustrated of not getting regular football this season as he played a lot of matches in the previous campaign. He expressed his satisfaction on the performance against Hannover and remained hopeful
that he can be back in the starting line-up if he continues to perform in the same way.
“I played so any games last season and we were successful and then it is not easy when, in August, you find yourself on the bench again. The coach had seen that it was getting to me. It is not easy to be 100% motivated in training
when you are sitting on the bench,” the shot stopper was quoted as saying in an interview.
However, manager Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that despite Wetklo’s brilliant performance, he would not be starting the league game against Werder Bremen on Saturday. He revealed that the player will play in the Cup games whereas
Heinz Muller will take part in the major games.
“Christian Wetklo made some great saves, not just the penalty. I had long since decided that he would play in our DFB-Pokal games. He is a great goalkeeper and I owe this to him,” the manager concluded.
FSV Mainz drew their last match in the league against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 and will take on Werder Bremen at home this weekend in search of their third win of the current campaign.
