FSV Mainz midfielder Jan Kirchhoff has rued missed chances against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 in the recent Bundesliga clash at the Olympiastadion. He admitted that his side had the chances to seal the game and secure all three points at the
end.
The youngster, who can also play in defence, admitted that the departures of Andre Schurrle and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lewis-Holtby-c22175 has surely had a huge impact on the team and it will take time to find the right mix.
FSV Mainz started the season brightly with two wins from the first two games but have been terrible after that as they have lost five and drawn three since. The club has fell from being at the top to 15th place on the
Bundesliga standings table with nine points from 10 games.
Kirchhoff claimed that his side played really well in the fixture and created chances throughout the course of 90 minutes but failed to convert any of them. He insisted that the team played with great determination and competence
but the luck was not on their side.
“We can't really fault ourselves for anything, other than the fact that we didn't take our chances. We implemented our strategy very well and at half-time the coach told us to go out and reward ourselves for our performance. Unfortunately,
we didn't,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Bundesliga.de.
The German Under-19 international admitted that the Andre Schurrle and Lewis Holtby were key players and they are surely missed as their creativity and pace drove the team. Schurrle moved to Bayer Leverkusen whereas Holtby returned
to Schalke after serving a loan deal.
“Obviously the likes of Andre Schurrle or Lewis Holtby aren't easily replaced, but ten games into the season you can't still be using that as an excuse. Whoever's out on the pitch knows how his teammates are going to move, and
everyone's pulling together for each other,” he concluded.
