FSV Mainz midfielder Yunus Malli has played down any comparisons with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid’s Mesut Ozil. The player admitted that he still has a lot of work to do to reach the level of the German international and hopes to perform better
in the next campaign.
The playmaker joined Mainz on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer and is rated as one of the best talents in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 at the moment. He stated that he left Monchengladbach in search of first team football which
he was not getting at his former club.
Malli claimed that he was also compared to Ozil when he played in Monchengladbach but insisted that he has his own game and added that he still needs to play with a lot more consistency to reach that level.
“The comparison with Mesut was also in Gladbach before. It would be nice if I could get on his level, but until then I still have a lot of hard work to me,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to the club’s official website.
The 19-year old revealed that he is working hard in the pre-season training and wants to achieve full fitness before the next campaign starts. The player admitted that he has to improve on his defensive role if he wants to play
regular football for Mainz as it is one of the major responsibilities of a midfielder.
“The training is demanding, the higher the speed, the harder duels. But, no problem, I'm feeling very well. In the game against the ball I still have to be aggressive, do more for the defensive,” the German concluded.
Mainz manager Christian Heidel praised the youngster and revealed that he is one of the biggest surprises for the club this summer. He hailed the player for giving his best in training and predicted a bright future for him.
“Yunus is perhaps the biggest surprise among our newcomers. He plays a very, very good role in training- that he tuned up so early, I would not previously have expected,” he said.
FSV Mainz will start their new campaign against Bayer Leverkusen at home on Sunday, August 7.
