Hello,

I asked this previously, but not one is helping. PLEASE HELP!

I was wondering if anyone out there could answer some questions I have about FTP? I want to use filezilla or smartftp. Can these be used to upload websites? What is the MAIN purpose of these softwares? Any insight or knowledge would be very helpful to me.

I would just like to get the FULLEST benefit I can from one of these programs. I heard you could use them for multiple uses like building your own site and uploading the files, and for other uses too. Is this true? And what other uses? Is HFS HTTP better to use now? What is the difference between HFS HTTP and CuteFTP? THANKS!!!

  1. FTP is short for File Transfer Protocol. You can use FTP to upload files, to the server where your site will be hosted. Filezilla is one of the software used to transfer files.

When using FTP, you just type ftp://domain.com in your browser address and you will be required to enter a username and a password for you to upload. This is same with Filezilla.

HTTP is port where your site will be viewed. Just like http://www.domain.com. You will encounter all this when you will be contacting web hosting providers, like us, and we will provide you with the access so you can upload your files, then your site will be up.
