If I have a hosted FTP server on my computer (using Filezilla..) and I have a domain name (With godaddy.com) .. is there a way to make it so if people go to my domain name they go right to my computer hosted FTP server?

(So people do not have to type in my IP address to visit my FTP server)

  1. Is your IP address fixed or dynamic?  GoDaddy comes with a DNS server, so if your IP address is always going to be the same, just use the GoDaddy DNS to define your IP address as part of your domain.

If your address changes regularly (most home systems do), you need dynamic DNS.  Go to dyndns.org and sign up.  If you want to use your own domain name it may cost you a little bit (not a lot, they're not expensive.)  If you're willing to use one of dyndns's domains you can get free dynamic DNS.

  2. I'm not sure on how Godaddy's admin menu works, but I use Yahoo domains.  On their admin area, you can create subdomains and point them to any IP#.

Example, in the admin menu, you can create a subdomain of ftp.yourdomain.com and input any IP# you wish.  You would input your home computer IP#.  Then accessing ftp.yourdomain.com would point to your computer.

I have several hobby websites running from my home computer. Each one is a separate subdomain (ie wow.mydomain.com , runescape.mydomain.com , etc)
