Question:

FUEL SAVER CHIP CHRYSLER LHS?

We all know that everyone these days is concerned about getting better gas mileage with their vehicle, I am no exception. I have been looking for a cold air intake for my 2000 Chrysler LHS and to no avail have found none. In searching through ebay I came across a Fuel Saver Chip that is supposedly made to fit lots of cars including mine. My question is, has anyone actually used these chips and what have the results been what the advertisement states it is? Please be specific. Below is what the ebay listing was...

  1. Don't use them.  They save only few MPH and even then it does this by running the engine dangerously lean (too little fuel for the air ratio).  That makes the engine run extremely hot.

The ONLY thing that works is exhaust header pipes.  Not even the short / cold air intake makes that much difference.

Forget all those "SAVE GAS" scams.  This was on NBC morning TV show.   The difference is as much as 38% (their claim).  There are very simple rules to save gas:

    (1) drive slow - not too much past 55

    (2) accelerate slowly

    (3) don't brake unnecessarily

    (4) use cruise control - whenever it is safe to do so.

Don't coast - it is NOT safe (to coast in Nuetral) and it does NOT save gas.  It only saves gas, if you are planning to slow down (exiting, tolls, traffic).  Coasting then accelerating again is LESS efficient than just cruising.

The above really works. Using those simple rules I was able to drive from Boston to NYC (210.5 miles) on just 5.112 gallon (94 Civic).  That's 41 MPG (94 Civic 187K miles).  Actually I was speeding at 72 MPH so I could do even better at 55.

    WOW !!

    Good luck...

  2. All of the above! Your car came with a O2 feed back system (like all the rest) This system takes into consideration how much power you are asking the engine for, how fast you are driving, altitude you are at, and other inputs and computes them for best running conditions and fuel economy. It is all built into the computer. If you buy after market stuff to improve it you can only lose performance. And may very well not gain that much extra mileage from it. Improved driving habits is the best method of improving mileage.

  3. They dont work.  If it was that easy to raise your mileage cars would already come with it.
