After seeing Faber beat Pulver what are your thoughts on this matchup. Assuming that BJ dropped weight.

I think Faber could win this one

  1. BJ's got more power, skill and experience than Faber.  Faber's got the speed.  I'd have to give it to Penn.  Pulver was a walk in the park for Penn.  But, Pulver was a battle for Faber.  So, Penn wins the fight all the way.

  2. BJ fights mostly at 155.  When he fought Jens it was at 155.  Jens can lose the weight and fight at 145.  I don't think BJ can.  He hasn't shown that great of a track record in keeping himself fit.  Yea, he was fit for Sherk and I hope he continues.

Faber would have to move up in weight which I don't see happening.  He's already stacked at 145 and he's only 5'3.  Imagine him gaining 10 more lbs of muscle.  I doubt his game will be the same.

IMO, the Pulver-faber fight was kinda weak.  Jens was not the same Jens I've seen in the past.  He was pretty tame.  I don't know what was on his mind but he was not there 100%.  We're talking about Jens Pulver... the guy wins most of his bouts in the 1st round by KO.

Anyway, I would bet BJ wins over Faber.  I won't give any mmamath on it, I just have more faith in BJ's ability than I do Faber's.

  3. not a chance bj would kill faber....did you guys forget how easily he beat pulver....and almost beat hughes and st.pierre

  4. I'd say BJ Penn :)***

  5. I'd take the California kid on this one. yeah penn beat pulver easy faber would have to if he wanted the match on the ground. everybody doubted fabers boxing so he keep it on the feet. if it goes to the ground which bj will want faber will be comfortable. obviously expierence doesnt matter thiago alves beat matt hughes and hughes was more experienced.  faber is the stronger of the 2. and bj is 155, faber is 145 for those who didn't know.

  6. URIJAH FABER ALL THE WAY!!!!!

  7. if penn dropped and faber went up in weight i do believe penn with more fights against tougher fighters would win.

  8. I don't think BJ would need to drop weight. Last year, BJ fought Jens, which implies he's in the right class. last time i checked, he was a lightweight.

and regarding the Matchip, I would have to go with BJ Penn over Urijah. BJ's got the superior ground game.Urijah's got great stand up and lightning quick hands, but BJ isn't exactly inadequate at standup either. Experience is the X Factor in this matchup. I think BJ Penn would edge Urijah in the 3rd round with a submission.

Unfortunately, I doubt this matchup will ever happen. Penn is in the UFC and he gets paid too much to leave. Urijah is in the WEC, and there is no way the WEC president is losing his Golden Boy to the UFC.
