Fabian Cancellara back to Classics with eye on pink at Giro d'Italia
After a disappointing 2012 campaign, Fabian Cancellara is all set to find his right form in the season ahead as he sets his eyes at the spring Classics.
The cyclist had an outstanding 2011 season with podium finishes at the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders but was left frustrated after a struggling 2012 season.
Cancellara’s only commendable performance in the 2012 season include a first place finish at the Strade Bianche, a stage seven win at the Tirreno-Adriatico, second place finish at the Milan-San Remo along with a victory at the Tour de France 2012 prologue.
The Swiss also referred as ‘Spartacus’ is mainly known for his unbelievable time trialling abilities as he sets his eyes at this year’s Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix before finally going to the Giro d’ Italia.
"First of all, I will ride the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. The Tour... I could skip, especially now there is no prologue," he previously announced.
The stage 2 team time trial stage of the Giro will ideally favour him and might also win him the pink jersey, maglia rosa, a jersey that he is yet to get his hands on
The 31-year-old stated that the new coach is working hard with the team and is hungry for win just like all the riders on the side. He noted that Team RadioShack-Nissan is a much stronger side if they work as a unit, while talking to La Gazzetta dello Sport

“I only regret not having Bennati as a companion, but Devolder and Hondo are two good riders”.
"I come from a year in which a lot has happened, both positive and negative-stands", said Cancellara.
"Firstly, the crash at Flanders, the yellow jersey in the Tour, the birth of my son and finally the fall in London. I'm sure I'll become stronger and I'm doing everything I need to achieve new successes. 2013 will be my year," he concluded.
It will be interesting to see if Fabian manages to find the right form earlier on the new season to help his team with a much needed start to find its winning ways in the 2013 season.
