Fabian Cancellara happy with his record seventh victory at the Swiss Road Championships
Fabian Cancellara bagged his seventh consecutive victory at the Swiss National Championships.
The cyclist rode brilliantly during the 50 Kilometre Elite Men race and completed the event in a quickest time of 1:00:39.34 and occupied the top podium spot.
Thomas Frei of Team Christina Watches-Onfone, Martin Elmiger of Team Ag2r La Mondiale and Marcel Wyss of Team NetApp achieved the second, the third and the fourth positions in the respective order.
Fabian was delighted after winning the event and briefed, “I'm very proud to have won another Swiss title in the time trial”.
“Cancellara said. “It's an honour to wear the colours of your country, even for the seventh time. The competition was very motivated, because all of us want that title”.
He further added that, “I'm happy with where I stand at this point,” Cancellara said.
“I was relaxed and very focused. In a race like this you don't have the big infrastructure around you, there are no official split times and there are not so many competitors [there were six starters – ed.]”.
The 31-year-old opened his 2012 winning account with a first place finish at the Strade Bianche and also won the seventh stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico along with a second place finish during the Milan-San Remo 2012.
Fabian bagged gold medal during the Beijing Olympics at the Time Trial event and is determined to repeat his performance at the coming edition of the contest.
He started riding professionally with Team Mapei-Quick Step in 2001 and spent a period of two years with the side.
The cyclist represented Team Fassa Bortolo from 2003-05 and represented Team CSC through 2006-10 seasons.
Fabian penned a deal with Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and is continuing his second consecutive season with the team.
