Fabian Cancellara of Team RadioShack-Nissan succeeded during the final stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012
Fabian Cancellara of Team RadioShack-Nissan won the battle of the best sprinter during the seventh stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
He finished the 9.3 kilometre stage 7 in a fastest time of 10 minutes and 36 second to grab his first victory at the Italian race.
Daniele Bennati of Team RadioShack-Nissan finished 12 seconds behind at the second position while Cameron Meyer of Team GreenEdge Cycling Team achieved the third spot.
Svein Tuft, Manuele Boaro, Hayden Roulston and Ian Stannard achieved the fourth, the fifth, the sixth and the seventh positions in the respective order.
While commenting on his performance during the final stage, he briefed that his team supported him throughout the seven-staged race.
Fabian voiced, “I have no mixed feelings about this. It’s been a fantastic week. The team did a great TTT to set me up to take the jersey and I defended it for a few days”.
“Tactically I think we did a brilliant race. This is not a course that is ideal for me, but to stay on the podium is good for me. I was concerned that I might not stay in the top three”, he concluded.
Cancellara Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and made it through to the new side, Team RadioShack-Nissan for the 2012 season.
Vincenzo Nibali secured the overall classifications after his ninth place finish during the individual time trial’s event.
He started the final stage of the race at the third position with Christopher Horner and Roman Kreuziger at the first and the second positions in the respective order.
Nibali achieved the first overall victory of the new season to mark a perfect start to his 2012 campaign. He finished second during the Tour of Oman 2012 and also grabbed the fifth stage of the race.
Stefano Pirazzi, Ego Martinez De Esteban and Kristof Goddaert are leading the mountain’s classifications.
Wout Poels, Cameron Meyer and Jon Izaguirre Insausti were the best three young riders during the seven-staged race.
Team AG2R-La Mondiale topped the team’s classifications with Team Katusha, Team Astana, Team Vacansoleil-DCM and Team Colnago claimed the next four spots after the team’s classifications.
