Fabian Cancellara satisfied with his Tour de Suisse performance
Fabian Cancellara of Team RadioShack-Nissan noted that he was really nervous before the opening stage of the Tour de Suisse.
The four-time World Champion joined the peloton after recovering from his collarbone fracture during the Tour of Flanders.
The cyclist missed almost two months during the recovery process and marked his return at the Bayern Rundfahrt, which he abandoned because of illness.
Fabian is hugely supported by the home crowd as he came out to ride during the opening stage of the Tour de Suisse.
He briefed, “Just because I’ve won a lot of things in the time trial doesn’t mean I will automatically win”.
“You have to have power. I tried to do my best, especially here in my home tour”.
“The expectations are always high and I tried to stay focused on the race and my performance”.
“This is what counts. Maybe I lost just a little bit because of that pressure”.
The 31-year-old noted that he has still not gained his strengths back since the crash but is definitely feeling much better.
Cancellara rode brilliantly during the opening 7.3 kilometre Individual Time Trial stage 1 of the race.
He was looking good to bag his first victory after the return but fell four seconds short of Peter Sagan.
Fabian briefed, “I am still getting better and I am feeling better. I will continue to concentrate and focus on what is coming.
“On the top of the climb I had gone so deep today”.
The cyclist has already filled his bag with three victories in the first half of the season including a first place finish at the Strade Bianche, and a stage 7 win at the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
He finished second during the Milan-San Remo with Simon Gerrans of Team Orica GreenEdge securing the top spot.
Cancellara is still in time for the Tour de France and Team Manager Johan Bruyneel  cited earlier that Fabian is the only confirmed cyclist for the French Grand Tour.
Frank Schleck is more likely to lead the Luxembourg based team at the French Grand Tour but his considering his current form, things can easily go in favour of Fabian.
