Fabian Hammes and Nikolay Ukk enter quarter-finals of Slovenia International 2011 – Badminton News
Germany’s Fabian Hammes and Russia’s Nikolay Ukk entered into the Men’s Singles quarter-finals after beating their opponents in the round-of-16 of the Slovenia International 2011, on May 14, at Medvode, Slovenia.
Eighth seed, Fabian, defeated Krasimir Yankov of Bulgaria in straight sets of 22 minutes, whereas, thirteenth seed, Nikolay, tamed Yevgen Pochtarev of Ukraine in similar fashion by consuming 30 minutes on the court.
Fabian proved his worth against the Bulgarian by playing a flawless game. He has improved a lot in the technical and tactical areas of his game. His powerful strokes kept Krasimir moving around in all corners of the court. He built pressure on the opponent
from the start of the game and established an 11-7 lead, in the first-half of the set.
After taking a one-minute rest, the German continued demonstrating top class badminton. Krasimir worked hard to play better and break the flow of his opponent, but made many unforced errors at the net. Fabian grabbed the opening set by a 21-14 margin, in
just 13 minutes.
In the second set, Fabian played at his highest speed and spared no chance for the Bulgarian to score points. At the end of the first-half, the German was ahead of his challenger at 11-5. He remained much focused in the game and finished the second set in
just 9 minutes, with a 21-10 margin. The 22-minute one-sided match ended with a 21-14 and 21-10 score.
In another match, Nikolay showed no mercy to Yevgen in a two-set fight. The Russian opened his campaign in an attacking style and quickly established a big lead of 11-5 in the opening part of the first set. After the 60-second break, he continued his positive
game and finished the set by a 21-12 margin, in just 13 minutes.
Yevgen played better badminton in the opening half of the second set where he remained equal to the Russian, at 8-8. Nikolay accelerated the speed of his game and took a three-point lead by reaching at 11-8. After the break, he continued his impressive game
and won the second set by a 21-15 margin, in 17 minutes. The concluding score of this 30-minute two-set match was 21-12 and 21-15.
