Fabian Roth thrashes Lars Schanzler in final round of Portuguese International Junior Championships
Germany’s budding shuttler Fabian Roth served notice of his potential by claiming the Men’s Singles title in 4th Portuguese International Junior Championships on Sunday, December 2, 2012.
He was up against compatriot Lars Schanzler in this crucial encounter and both contenders kept the audience intact throughout this 50-minute showdown.
They challenged each other in all areas of the game and finished this grand finale with final figures of 15-21, 21-13 and 21-19.
This match was played at the local badminton complex of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal and a decent number of spectators gathered to support both shuttlers.
The lower ranked Lars Schanzler raised his chances of victory by winning the very first match point but then lack of experience proved the biggest hurdle in his way to success.
On the other hand, Fabian employed all of his brilliance and locked the honour in a splendid manner. He came back from a horrendous start and ruled the court in the last two games.
In the opening game, Lars launched a brisk attack and established a decent lead in no time. He did not fritter away his effort and strengthened his grip with couple of consecutive points.
At the mid-game break, he was enjoying the upper hand with a mountainous total of 11 and this advantage helped him to keep the opposing shuttler under control in later part of the game.
Fabian Roth, who was the second seeded player in this tournament, made every effort to come out of the deficit but he could not hit the mark until the decisive score position of 15-21.
However, he managed to end his bad patch in the very next game and smacked down his rival with a staggering knock.
This time Fabian employed interesting tactics and confounded his competitor with a fine blend of power packed smashes and masterly crafted drop net shots.
He finished the first half of the set with a notable lead and then piled up an overwhelming margin of 21-13.
Third set was filled with great sensation as both compatriot shuttlers put all in their possession to claim the trophy.
They chased each other all the way to game point situation and this hard fought match-up ended when Fabian registered a favourable result of 21-19.
